[ slowly but surely, too slowly for hermione's taste, she has begun to realise the nature of the problem. hallucinations, like those from a false memory charm, individual and non-transferable. what she hears, others do not; what they feel, she cannot share.
she's seen people cry out for loved ones, flinch from invisible terrors. it's ... too much, really. so she stays in her cabin, as much as she can, focusing on placing up wards and organising (though not unpacking) her bag, making the place feel as homey as she can without sacrificing the easy convenience of leaving in a hurry if she must.
but as the week drags on, as the screams go more prevalent even in the relative quiet of the village, as occasional ghosts slip through even hermione's most deadset wards, she thinks it might be helpful to have someone other than the screams of her friends in pain or the visions of her parents' blank stares for company.
thus, mid-day, an audio call: ]
Peter? [ a beat. ] Hello, is anyone there?
[ it's like a telephone, right? if she calls, he has to answer the phone. ]
( Also, can we pretend that I sent this two to three weeks ago, so it's not nearly as rude that I've taken this long to say hi? Thank you in advance. )
Peter, did you get to safety? If you ate the food-- then, you're probably wondering what happened.
Shortly after people started eating, they lost consciousness. While we were still figuring out what happened, we were attacked by spirits, different from the ones in Beacon. Some of them were those green eyed ones that can cause you to hallucinate.
People grabbed who they could and went into hiding. If you go out, be careful.
So, you've been on some of the explorations into the more unknown parts of Beacon before, right? Any plans to go out again? I'm not going by myself, but there seemed enough interest at the Town Hall to look into some of the locations I found out about during my dream.
Thought I should check in with anyone that seemed interested and had been here longer than me for either tips on what to do or if you were interested in checking out any of the hints we got.
Didn't exactly seem like there was a sign up sheet for this sort of thing. Hope you can help a guy out.
[After the Night Market has descended back into the lake, Peter receives an inbox message!]
THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING THREE (3) HINT(S) FROM DR. SCHICKSAL'S HINT-O-MATIC. YOUR PAYMENT HAS BEEN PROCESSED.
[At random intervals ranging from every few minutes to every few hours, Peter will feel his heart seize up and skip beats until it manages to right itself after about a minute. He'll also find that his living space is now haunted by a poltergeist, and he will no longer have a sense of smell.
These effects will last until the next full moon.]
[ On the 25th December Peter will find a small parcel on his front porch labeled "From Aziraphale To Peter." Inside it is a box of handmade chocolate-covered marshmallows. There is an included note that reads, "Thank you for the gift. Happy Christmas." ]
A ridiculously sealed note is left at Peter's place. When he manages to finally open it - why? so much tape?? - he'll see the following message written in a surprisingly neat cursive script:
Hi Mr. Peter!
I wanted to let you and the other people who fell asleep during the events and dreamt know the following: You can write to Dr. Solis and tell her what you dreamt.
You can do so at the Post Office. Postmaster General will send your letter to her.
I'm sorry for doing this too but I really, really am asking nicely to please do so when you can get around this. I'm not sure who else was with you and the logbook doesn't mention any names when it describes your experience at the church.
It's less impressive without the power, admittedly. But she goes anyway, because it's something to do, and she might as well know every inch of this dark purgatory. Besides: that rollercoaster is fascinating. Terrible, and yes, of course, awfully sad, but still: a feat of biology and physics, all in one.
But so: she intends fully on approaching, but she's distracted by a . . .
Well, it's not a spirit, is it? He is, she should say, although with that costume she's fairly sure no one would fault her if she mistook him for that. Right now, he seems to be eyeing one of the games speculatively. The spirit in charge is eagerly trying to cajole him (probably? it's sometimes a bit difficult to tell), but of course they are.]
Is this what you do in your spare time? Win prizes?
[It's not critical so much as a way to say hello, there you are, it's been a while, spider boy.]
