[ stephen let him tell you how many versions of himself he has met. ]
It was a couple of years ago, relatively speaking. I'd say maybe you really did just miss it, but outside of the question of where, there's the question of when, right?
Do we work together where you're from, Doc?

[ there are a few immediate thoughts in response to that: one, teenage him worked with, quote unquote, doctor strange, question mark; two, peter's met teenage him and he also remembers being teenage him. teenage him was absolutely not his Best SelfTM which — subsection of two: he was not winning any Most Popular Superhero of the Year awards at that age. ]
Oh, boy.
That answers one question. High school was a while ago for me.
Mostly I was concerned you might be sixteen and unsupervised. [ And recently dead then bereaved, but that's an aside for another time ] As you're not, it's a check-in.
Are you in touch many others from our corner of the multiverse?
[ god, DON'T call him out like this, it's too real ]
Everybody needs a fallback career.
We've been heavily represented over the months. Right now there are four of us from my universe, a few from some others. How closely did you work with the Avengers?
[ Please. you can't actually have to be a card carrying member of the Avengers to be an Avenger, surely ]
Steve Rogers is around. As is Captain Danvers, if you know her. A couple of the others have come and gone and Loki's about as harmless as can be hoped for.
I know her. [ 'why the qualifier?' is a question; there's also a comment to be said about 'loki had your job for a while', but, you know, conversation for another day. ] I don't know if harmless can ever be used in conjunction with Loki, but I also figure it's part and parcel of his schtick.
It's worth knowing that I arrived here over seven months ago. If there's something you need to know or a connection you want to make, there's a high chance I can aim you in the right direction.

I've been behind on my reading.
I don't think we've officially met.

That feels like a very specific 'we', which is probably the opening to an 'it's complicated' talk. If it helps, we can probably skip the preamble.

I know a version of yourself but he definitely doesn't have a book out, photographs or not.

[ he's baby but he's not quite that baby, Stephen ]
We have, once. But not consistently.

Sooo... Was this a check-in or a check-up?

I knew the Sanctum Sanctorum had a few rooms, but I didn't realize one of them was a crèche, Doc.
No. I'm still pretty fresh off the boat, metaphorically speaking.

[ something something please don't indulge him if he turns up at your door with a goddamn house spider. ]
I had a card for a while - which, by the way, is actually really inconvenient when you don't have pockets.

I'll take your point. Let's switch up the phrasing: he comes in peace.
Then there's the other you.

Is this one unsupervised too?

[ read: old ]

Did you leave mentioning the other me until last for dramatic effect? Because Doc, you really shouldn't have.

He goes by peter.benjamin if you wanted to track him down.

[ "peter benjamin", well. it's better than "ben reilly" AT LEAST. ]
Wow, subtlety really isn't my middle name. I was wrong all these years.
...Does your middle name also begin with 's', out of interest?

No.

What about 'p'?

Greek roots.
Not to say you have Greek roots, I have no idea what your background is.
